This all started with a post that !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! (note that HE did not get this wrong) made.. So I thought I'd write something smart about mechanical energy pr minute and all that.. just to find that.. HEY... someone's already done a decent thing on this..

Torque is the measurement that matters

Yes.. and no... No HP = no Torque. It's not that simple, yet it IS very easy.

Isn't it "torque = hp * somethingsciencesomething * RPM"? So if hp=0, equation over.
(edit - whoops meant this to be a reply to another comment here)

Regardless, you're right :)

They get to what's the hardest to explain to people (even those with mechanical inclinations) in the last section. Peak numbers are interesting, but you really need to understand the curve over your operating range.
Of course, it'd be a lot harder to advertise and brag at the gas pump showing graphs as opposed to a couple numbers I suppose.

I usually just respond as such "well.. I'm usually in controll of 750ish HP and 3500ish NM, come at me bro" :P

I think that's the best article explaining it I've ever seen

It is rather good indeed.

Here is a pretty good short video about hp v. torque.
EDIT: This is the video that I was looking for.

That's a really good way to teach people about torque vs HP indeed. Thanks mate :)

He has some pretty good videos that are easy to understand and have good information in them. Did you catch the second video that I added? It was the one that I meant to post first.

It was the second one I watched mate :)

Well given that HP is derived fro torque then yeah. What I said is right, but also a massive over simplification. The curve on the graph is very important.

Yup, but try telling the average car guy/girl that..
